Endowment
The Dominican Campus Endowment is an
umbrella management vehicle for over thirty separate endowed funds
and scholarships for Overbrook School, St. Cecilia Academy, and
Aquinas College which exceeds $5,000,000 in value. The Endowment
provides the third source of stable revenue for the schools in
addition to tuition and annual giving. With the Endowment, donated
funds are permanently invested and only the income from the
investment is used.
As a donor, you may give to the
general endowment fund of the individual school or you may give to
an existing specific fund (i.e., the Aquinas Endowed Scholarship
Fund, the St. Cecilia Theatre Endowment Fund, or the Overbrook
Library Endowment Fund). These permanently invested funds are pooled
in a single unitized fund under guidelines established by the
National Association of College and University Business Officers.
This pooling arrangement consolidates investments in one portfolio,
which provides a uniform and disciplined approach to investing. At
the same time, it creates a larger asset base, allowing for greater
diversification than could be realized by any single fund.
Pooling individual funds for
investment purposes has many benefits. It provides investment
management efficiencies and reduces investment costs, while
retaining detailed information about each fund within the pool.
Endowment funds are permanently
invested in fixed income and equity securities with safety of
principal as the primary consideration, and income and the potential
for appreciation being secondary considerations.
The Endowment annually distributes
the total return of the fund not to exceed 5.0% of the market value.
The return in excess of 5.0% is reinvested into the funds to protect
endowment gifts and distributions against inflation.
Overbrook School, St. Cecilia
Academy, and Aquinas College rely on the guidance of experienced
professional financial advisors in establishing investment policies
and procedures and in the directing of investments. |
