The Dominican Campus is
located on 92 wooded acres in Nashville, Tennessee. Owned by the
Dominican Sisters of the Congregation of St. Cecilia, the Campus
is home to Overbrook School, St. Cecilia Academy, and Aquinas College.
Since coming to Nashville in 1860,
the Sisters have fulfilled their vocational mission of education,
leading students to a deeper knowledge of their faith, their
heritage, and their responsibilities as members of society. The
Dominican Order, also known as the Order of Preachers, was founded
in 1216 by Saint Dominic de Guzman. Saint Dominic saw a need for
prayerful preachers and teachers, thoroughly educated in both the
sacred and secular subjects, to teach the Truths of the Faith.
The St. Cecilia Congregation was
founded in 1860 when four Dominican sisters from Ohio came to
Nashville to open St. Cecilia Academy as a boarding school for young
women. Today, the Congregation of St. Cecilia is a growing and
vibrant congregation of 170 Sisters with 38 Sisters in formation. In
addition to The Dominican Campus, the congregation carries its
apostolic mission to teach into the new millennium with 21 schools
in seven states.
Located in separate facilities on the
campus, Overbrook School, St. Cecilia Academy, and Aquinas College
endeavor to nourish the intellectual gifts of students and to
develop their spiritual and physical potential.
Overbrook
School, founded in 1936, serves the educational needs of Middle
Tennessee area boys and girls in preschool, beginning with age
three, through grade eight.
Since 1860, St.
Cecilia Academy has provided educational excellence for young
women in grades nine through twelve.
Aquinas
College is a co-educational college offering Bachelor and
Associate degree programs in a variety of formats for traditional
and non-traditional students.
Excellent facilities, enriched
curriculums, and extracurricular programs at each school provide the
means for outstanding achievement and success. The schools of The
Dominican Campus offer to students of all ages and faiths a caring,
Christ-centered environment that promotes academic excellence in the Dominican tradition. |
